he Gunners drew a blank against their Turkish opponents at Ashburton Grove. The reverse fixture in Istanbul resulted in a 5-2 triumph for the English giants, but on their own patch they could not break down a determined Fener.
The stalemate caps a worrying run of results for Arsenal, who have now gone four games without a win, and Wenger admitted he had an eye on Saturday's blockbuster with Manchester United.
“Saturday is a massive game for us. It is vital to do well in our League games against the big teams,” he told The Sun.
“But we have had three difficult games in the space of one week and tonight we did not have the physical resources required to break down Fenerbahce.
“We created three or four clear-cut chances in the first half but couldn’t score and in the second half we dropped physically and were less dangerous.”
None of the Premier League's big hitters managed to claim victory on Matchday 4 of the Champions League. Chelsea were downed by Roma, Liverpool scraped a draw against Atletico Madrid and Man United were held by Celtic.
Wenger believes such results indicate a collective fatigue, pointing to the fact that the 'Big Four' have now played three midweek games on the trot.
The Frenchman said: “All the English teams were doing well in the Champions League but this week none of us has won.
“Maybe that is due to the fact there was a full Premier League fixture list last Wednesday and we have not had enough time to recover.”
