Arsenal Move For PSG Stopper Landreau?

Stung by the loss of six goals in two games, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is poised to delve into the transfer market this winter in order to bolster his goalkeeping options.

According to English newspaper, The People, countryman Mickaël Landreau has emerged as the favourite to challenge current number one Manuel Almunia, who, it is reported, has angered Wenger with his recent sub-standard performances.

A price tag of €2.5 million is the value reported in the paper. However, this seems rather paltry for a goalkeeper of 29 years of age, particularly one who commands such experience as Landreau.

Paris Saint-Germain, the French international goalkeeper’s current employers, are hardly a club overburdened with goalkeeping talent and would certainly resist allowing their first choice stopper to go so cheaply.

The People suggests that Wenger has been following Landreau’s progress since last season, a year in which he struggled for form and lost his place in the French national squad.

Now over that poor run, Landreau has been one of PSG’s most consistent players this term, losing only 11 goals in his first 12 league matches this season.

Since signing on in Paris from boyhood club Nantes in 2006, Landreau has been an ever-present for les Parisien in Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, PSG recently refuted suggestions that they were chasing Gunners goalkeeper, Łukasz Fabiański.
