Silvestre To Miss United Clash

Despite the season only being eleven matchdays old Arsenal go into their Saturday lunchtime showdown with Manchester United knowing that a further three points dropped will effectively destroy any notion they harboured of challenging for the title.

Arsenal have home advantage, but the prospect of a win seems less and less likely as their injury list continues to have big names added to it almost daily.

Emmanuel Adebayor is out of action for up to three weeks. William Gallas and Bacary Sagna are both doubtful, Theo Walcott remains 50/50, while the usual names of Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo da Silva remain months away from full match fitness.

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre is the latest player needing treatment, as he has suffered a suspected broken nose.

"We will do further scans tomorrow [Thursday] in order to assess him," boss Arsene Wenger is reported to have said.

"We do not know yet if his nose is broken but he is a doubt for Saturday’s game.

"We have to prepare for a very important game against Manchester United. A good result is vital for us and we are ready."
