Wenger's Starlets May Fly The Arsenal Coop

For the past couple of season's Arsenal's young guns have impressed in the Carling Cup. Boss Arsene Wenger has used the competition to blood his next batch of talent, with great success.

This season, though, the high of outclassing Wigan Athletic's first team was followed by an awful low as the youngsters misfired, learning a harsh lesson against Championship outfit Burnley.

Thus, Wenger has limited opportunities remaining to give his hot prospects a run out this term. After all, the league title race is already getting down to the nitty gritty and the established first teamers are struggling as it is.

With that in mind, the wily Frenchman has conceded that it's time for some of his future stars to prove themselves away from North London.

He told the club's official website: "Jay Simpson, Gavin Hoyte and Kieran Gibbs might go on-loan.

"They need to play somewhere in the Championship for three or four months. Jack Wilshere? Not him... he is too young."

The Wilshere remark is a curious one. If he's too young for Championship football, then why was he given the task of dumping Burnley out of the League Cup?

Meanwhile, press reports are linking more second string players with January loan spells. West Bromwich Albion are said to be tracking Carlos Vela, while Mark Randall could again be farmed out, having spent time with Burnley themselves last term.
