The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal defender William Gallas has been ruled out of Saturday's clash with Wigan Athletic due to a calf problem.
The 31-year-old pulled up sore after the Emirates club's morale-boosting win over Chelsea last weekend, and he has not recovered in time to face Steve Bruce's men.
This is just the latest of several setbacks for unsettled Gallas, who has become something of an outcast at Ashburton Grove since being forced to hand the captain's armband to young Cesc Fabregas.
The Frenchman's place in defence is likely to be filled by Ivorian international Kolo Toure, whose campaign has been interrupted by a similar injury.
In other news, Brazilian-born striker Eduardo da Silva has finally returned to training after more than nine months out of action, and could be ready to play in the reserves by Christmas.
The Croatian international suffered a ghastly double-break in his left leg, thanks to Martin Taylor's mistimed tackle, when Arsenal visited Birmingham City in February.
